This is in regard to Ronaldo A. Cailler’s Sept. 7 letter titled, “Contain smell of manure.”

I’m sure no one, farmers included, appreciates the aroma of manure. If there was a way to contain the smell, I’m sure it would have been done years ago. That, of course, would be another expense the farmers can’t afford. The smell is only here for a short time, not year-round.

When we stop smelling manure being spread in gardens, that’s when we should complain because that’s when we can say goodbye to fresh milk, fresh vegetables and beef. What a sad day it will be to take a ride in the country and not see even one farm left.
