In reference to your story of June 19, “Baldacci: Time for property value cap,” by Mal Leary. Two points, please.

Sen. Jon Courtney shot that bird clean. The focus needs to be on controlling (read “limiting the growth of”) spending. Taxes will take care of themselves. Can you say Taxpayer Bill of Rights?

Secondly: Rep. Glenn Cummings recently referred to this scheme but, in a somewhat less than clear voice, mumbled something about keeping track of taxes the homeowner didn’t pay and collecting them on sale of the home. Did someone forget to mention that tidbit to Mr. Leary? Tsk tsk.
