This is in response to the letter from Elaine Graham of June 13.

Maine’s senators did not betray values. Well, perhaps Graham’s values, but they voted their conscience.

President Clinton signed the Defense of Marriage Act and, as long as it exists, there is no reason to make changes to our Constitution. Such an amendment would alter who and what we stand for.

I believe that both senators, Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, deserve a big thank-you.

Hooray to all the judges who rule against DOMA, which, as a law, is very discriminatory. Perhaps Graham’s belief system teaches discrimination and hatred as one of its principles. Christ did not.

If anyone is ruining family and marriage values, perhaps Graham should look no further than herself and others who believe the same. Who is getting divorced? Who is leaving their children feeling guilty or without child support? It is the heterosexual families.

We must ask, just how stable is a marriage if it can be threatened by two people who love and are devoted to each other, yet share the same sexual orientation?

Isn’t that odd, when you think about it – heterosexual couples also share the same sexual orientation.
