The Sun Journal headline June 15, “GOP rivals unite,” reflects Washington politics. Except, in Washington it is a “majority of the majority” taking over the nation. In Maine, it is a majority of the minority that hopes to win.

The question is, has the GOP really joined the fundamentalist conservatives? Do the Maine Republicans really accept the no choice, theocratic, conservatism of the would-be GOP governor?

This is bad news for Sen. Snowe and other Republicans trying to retain control. The vote of only some 40 percent of the GOP for conservative Woodcock suggests a Democratic landslide in November.
