Has anyone else noticed the orange and white stickers all over town spouting racist anti-immigrant garbage? These stickers show that elements from the World Church of the Creator and other neo-Nazi nonsense such as the National Alliance (which claims responsibility for the stickers) still walk among us here in Lewiston.

This is unacceptable.

Is anyone else paying attention? Does anyone care?

It is hard to believe that only a few years ago, more than 5,000 people rallied in support of our new immigrant neighbors. Where are these folks now? We cannot pretend racism isn’t a problem any more, or that we don’t have a responsibility to address it every day.

Please, please, someone else speak out against this. I cannot bear to believe I am the only person in this city ripping down these hateful stickers.

This city was built upon the backs of immigrants. This new wave of racist, anti-immigrant fervor is incredibly stupid and short-sighted. These stickers claim immigrants are taking our jobs.

I challenge the perpetrator of these stickers to consider – is it immigrants who are taking our jobs or the elite, rich, business class that is transferring all our jobs overseas?

I hope people think about it before putting up stupid and hateful stickers.
