A special meeting of the Ad Men’s bureau of the Lewiston Chamber of Commerce to consider “Made in Lewiston and Auburn Week” Feb. 4th to 9th was held at the Chamber of Commerce Thursday morning. President Jones of the Auburn board of trade was present representing the manufacturers of Auburn. Chairman Barnstone of the publicity committee reported that he had secured the cooperation of all Auburn manufacturers and a letter was read from the Auburn Shoe Manufacturers’ Association endorsing the movement.
50 years ago, 1967
Maine’s Gov. Kenneth M. Curtis and Lewiston Mayor William Rochelean Jr. praised Thursday afternoon, the continued and dedicated efforts of the Lewiston Housing Authority at the formal groundbreaking ceremony held at College and Blake streets. The long-anticipated event heralded the start of construction at the site of Lewiston’s first program of housing for the elderly. The LEA is sponsoring a six-story structure which will include 107 apartments.
25 years ago, 1992
Unemployed professionals looking for ideas on how to find a job or create their own business have a new option when they visit the Maine Job Service in Lewiston. The Professional Opportunities Network, Inc., a non-profit network of unemployed persons in the Lewiston-Auburn area, now has a cubicle in the unemployment office on Lisbon Street open two days a week. The network has a membership of about 200 people it can tap into when job opportunities come along or when members have an idea and want to discuss it with someone who might have a common interest.
