I realize that newspapers are fighting for their existence with TV and online competition, and are putting more emphasis on local events. However, to find, as on Jan. 16, a large spread on an owl collection – stuffed toys – as front-page news was, in my opinion, substandard. With comet dust, new presidents of Liberia and Chile, plus road sensors for overweight tractor-trailers, there was better material to think about.
Also, I would suggest omitting the overly cute pun-type headlines, such as “A cut above …” for a barber who died.
