The Lewiston-Auburn ministry of propaganda is hard at work in the television commercials of “L/A It’s Happening Here,” public image campaign.

Lewiston taxpayers’ involvement includes:

Lewiston Lisbon Street parking garage, on private, non-city-owned property, $6 million;

Southern Gateway project (Oxford Networks), $9.5 million;

The Public Theatre parking lot ($35,000 per space), $275,000;

Island Point Project (Libbey Mill), $7.5 million;

Empire Theater parking lot, $300,000;

Wal-Mart distribution project, state/Lewiston, $27 million;

Old St. Dominic High School, $200,000;

Old Pontiac Building, Lisbon Street (new Lewiston Chamber of Commerce), $160,000;

Auburn parking garage on private property, unknown.

Yes, it’s happening here, all at area taxpayer expense.

With regard to the governor’s business personal property tax elimination, I fail to see how that will benefit the public because the tax is already built into the price the public pays for goods and services. The only benefit will be to the business’ bottom line or the stock market. Then Maine taxpayers will have to make up the difference through taxes of a different source.
