Two days before Thanksgiving, I received a phone call that made me sick at heart. A hunter had noticed a cardboard box beside the Porter Road in West Paris. It had one end opened a bit. Something had been in and out – a mother cat. Upon investigating, the hunter found three dead kittens.

I called the animal control officer, who retrieved them. He said the evidence proved that the animals had all suffered badly.

How could anyone be so cruel?

Any person caught abusing an animal can be arrested, fined or even sentenced to jail time. There are laws about animal cruelty.

Whoever abused and abandoned those animals could simply have taken them all to an animal shelter. Kittens are adoptable.
