I am responding to Clayton Weeks’ letter of Oct. 25. He claims that employers could face lawsuits simply by firing a homosexual from his or her job. That is not correct. Employers are now able to fire African-Americans, women, Muslims and older Americans for a variety of reasons. These individuals all have the same protection that Question 1 will afford homosexuals.

For this law to apply, the party must prove that they were fired exclusively for being a homosexual. That is not easy to prove.

The Christian right wants to scare us into voting to uphold discrimination. Discrimination is wrong for African-Americans, women, Muslims, older Americans and for gay and lesbian citizens.

I encourage a no vote on Question 1 on Nov. 8.
