I read an article in the Sept. 12 Sun Journal regarding a Somali boy who was discriminated against. Not only was the boy discriminated against, but on this day, it was right his bus driver. How absurd is that? Aren’t children supposed to feel safe and secure at school?

Well, I don’t think this child did at all. Discrimination happens every day, and it’s going to continue. I don’t like the sound of that, and I bet a lot of others don’t either. We need to do something more than what is being done. A little slap on the wrist just isn’t making the cut.

The bus driver at the school in Auburn got away with just losing his job. Not only do I think that should have happened, but he also should have had to make a public apology. Maybe this way it could have changed the minds of others. He caused many people lots of embarrassment and hurt. The bus driver’s reaction to the Somali boy and not letting him get on the bus was a very bad way to handle to situation in the first place.

I know many people who are of other religions or races. To me, they are just as equal as everyone else in the world. It makes me feel bad to hear or see discrimination anywhere. This incident was just over the edge. I think there should possibly be more punishment for people who are discriminators.
