This concerns the Sun Journal coverage of the Blue Angels Flight Demonstration Team on the front page of the B section on Sept. 11. I went to the Saturday event along with approximately 119,000 other spectators and thoroughly enjoyed the various exhibits and flight demonstrations. The general feeling was one of patriotism, as well as awe at the skill level of the pilots.
On Sunday morning, I looked forward to reading about what I had witnessed and was surprised and disappointed to read an article that talked not about the air show, but about an antiwar march by 200 people. It was clear that the writer did not watch the air show or if he had, chose to write 95 percent of the article about the demonstration. I have seen this bias against the government before, but this was so blatant that I felt compelled to write this letter.
Lastly, on the way home from the air show, I went through the Bowdoin College area and saw a group of Bowdoin students waving the American flag in an obvious show of support for our great country. What a sight to see. It reinforced my belief that the United States of America is where I want to live.
It’s too bad that the Sun Journal couldn’t have witnessed this demonstration, but one has to wonder if it would have gone right over your head – pun intended.
