It is time to impeach President Bush before he gets anymore Americans killed. Since taking office, his administration has been culpable in three instances in which Americans died because of his negligence.
First, in August 2001, his administration was presented an intelligence report titled “Bin Laden determined to strike the U.S.” His administration took no action, Bush continued his vacation and we endured Sept. 11.
Second, with no intelligence definitively tying Iraq to al-Qaida or evidence that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, Bush decides to launch a war of choice against Iraq. Taking many fewer troops than his most senior military leaders said were needed, Bush has lost almost 2,000 of our finest and spent upwards of $200 billion so far. All this expenditure on our part, and Iraq is turning into a militant Muslim theocracy allied with Iran.
Finally, Hurricane Katrina. With more than two days’ advance warning that a Category 5 storm was on course to hit a major population center, the Bush administration did nothing to get an effective response team in place and mobilized. On Aug. 26, as New Orleans drowned, Bush campaigned for his Medicare legislation. As on Sept. 11, when Bush sat reading as the Twin Towers burned, Bush chose to ignore the reality of the hurricane to the peril of his countrymen.
Impeach President Bush before more die through his incompetence. We impeached Clinton for lying, and we can impeach Bush for failing in his responsibilities as commander-in-chief.
