Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor has given her resignation, and President Bush is soon to nominate a replacement. Nominees who act with restraint, interpreting law rather than making law, and who follow the Constitution and laws of the United States, as intended by the founders and framers, deserve a fair vote.

Liberals on the Senate Judiciary Committee are making the usual demands for a “centrist” nominee, which is to say, someone who passes the pro-abortion litmus test. A litmus test is a good thing, and I think the president should use one in making his choice.

But I believe that it is not the place of the minority party to tell the president what he must do and threaten “to go to war” against his nominees.
