I was born in 1950; every decade since has had significance for something.

Through all these decades, Americans came together to do what they had to do to make things right. We were more willing to accept differences. There was a stronger belief that people were basically good. That belief has dimmed with time.

I fear that America has lost its way. The poor get poorer, protection is denied to many, politicians promote their own agendas openly. Have we, as a nation, stopped caring? Are we powerless?

Our nation is on a downward spiral. We are looking the other way while the fiddler lights the fires of destruction. Let’s take back our lives, our children, our country and our destiny. Let’s say “No, I will not give you my sons and daughters.” Let’s demand that the billions of dollars that go overseas daily come back home. Let’s demand that we have safe homes, streets, schools and futures. Let’s once again value diversity, admire deeds and nurture all.

Great civilizations have a history of disappearing into their own greatness. Let’s humble ourselves, look at the tarnish on our souls, polish it off and put this country back to its original simplicity, a time when we were all accountable, determined to make life meaningful for all Americans. Let’s stand tall again and deserve it. Let’s humble ourselves before the power that made us great. Let’s not go the way of Rome. The lesson is plain, but we can write our own history.
