State Sen. Peter Mills does a disservice to the people of Maine (column, May 10) by refusing to identify what state services he and his friends behind the “people’s veto” want to cut.

Also, his suggestion that health insurance for the retired state workers should be taken away is totally unacceptable and irresponsible. Adding to the ranks of Maine’s uninsured just drives up health care costs for everyone else.

I’m proud of Gov. Baldacci and the legislative leaders for making sure that every Mainer has access to quality, affordable health care. That’s real leadership, and it’s the Maine way.
