Our veterans hospitals are in dire need of a quick fix. It is very humiliating to a veteran when he or she has to turn to the VA hospital for help. Just the other day, I chose to call the VA pharmacy for assistance.

A recording came on saying that my call is very important, and to please remain on the line and one of the staff members will be with on the line shortly. Forty-five minutes later, a live voice says, “Can I help you?”

Give me a break. How long do you think a senator or congressman would have waited? This is what I have mentioned over and over in my past letters to the editor. What we need to do to fix this mess with VA benefits is to ask our politicians in Washington to step down to our level and share the very same benefits that we have. Drug companies have too much power in Washington, and their influence over some of our politicians, has gone too far. This should be a wake-up call to the greedy special interests.

Veterans deserve a better system.
