This is in response to Nathan Harrington’s letter to the editor regarding fights during the Maineiacs games (Dec. 19). Apparently, he had never gone to a hockey game until then or else he would have known that fights during a hockey game are part of its history and they are what the fans love to see.

What values of this community is he talking about? Lewiston loves a good hockey game, which includes hockey fights. Ever hear the roar of the crowd when a hockey fight breaks out as the fans cheer on their team member? It’s fun, it’s raw and it wouldn’t be hockey without it.

I attend the Maineiac games and I see plenty of parents with plenty of children who are not bothered at all by these fights, and it doesn’t make them bad parents; and, excuse me, but the Maineiacs are having no problems selling tickets.

We’re not in Europe and if they don’t want to accept fighting in hockey, that’s their choice. But Lewiston takes pride in the Maineiacs and we stand behind our home team when they fight and cheer them on. If a person can’t stand to see the fights, then he or she shouldn’t attend the games because, trust me, someone else is waiting and willing to use the ticket.
