I guess that Kalle Oakes (column, Nov. 14), Lorie Paradis, myself and a few others just don’t get it. The people who are speeding on Route 4, and nearly every other highway in the state, are living life in the fast lane. They do not have the time to abide by the speed limit, red lights or other restrictions that the municipalities have tried to place on them. They are in a hurry and have things to do and places to go and cannot be impeded by people like us.
The alarm didn’t go off, they have to drop off kids at different schools or events, they are late for a meeting and a host of other excuses. They must get there in a hurry. All of the lights and signs are for those who have nothing better to do than obey the law.
I have recently had the privilege of driving on Route 4 to Turner three days a week for doctor’s appointments. The speeding starts in Auburn and just gets faster. I can tell that these people are running late as they are eating breakfast, putting on makeup and working on their laptops while barreling up Route 4. It’s a wonder there aren’t more accidents.
They’re also too busy to read the editorial page of this or any other newspaper.
I think Mr. Oakes, Ms. Paradis and myself need to stay on Upper and Lower streets and let the “life in the fast lane” people go on with their fast-lane lives.
