The other night the Lewiston Police decided to chase a stolen car at high rates of speed. They did not know who was driving, but they saw the driver was not going to stop.
Why not back off from the car so not to put others in jeopardy as well?
The driver was killed. It is obvious by the skid marks the speeds were very high, some reports say 60 mph others say 100 mph. No matter if a car is being chased and the person is not stopping, back off, keep them in sight, contact others ahead to watch for them.
My cousin was killed in a similar situation in 1979. She was not the driver, but she lost her life as well. The police need to back off, this young man made one awful mistake, and he paid dearly. But he should still be here if they had not felt the need to be big shots and push the driver to the limits.
The police are responsible for the death as I see it. The young man was wrong, but the Lewiston Police Department had to show its muscle. I hope they cannot sleep at night.
Two wrongs never make it right.
