The election for House Seat 89 this fall could well have implications on the future of the area. I understand that the Sun Journal has endorsed my opponent, and I would like to offer another choice.
While not from a “powerful political family,” I believe I better represent the people of the district because I come from a working-class family. The jobs that have been lost from this area are the jobs my parents worked. They literally would not be able to live here and raise a family now.
The district also needs someone who will work with, not against, Sen. Chandler Woodcock on economic and business issues. While Sen. Woodcock received a Maine Economic Research Institute rating of 95 percent, my opponent received a rating of 45 percent. Sen. Woodcock needs help and support in Augusta, not opposition from someone in his own backyard.
The very reason I am running is to change the economic direction that Western Maine has taken. While I am only one person and cannot and will not promise to be able to change everything, I will certainly work with our local senator to change the negative business environment. I believe that Maine can no longer be among the highest taxed and least employment friendly states in the country. When we create an environment where entitlement programs are easy to obtain, spending is out of control and our youth are leaving the state, we have a recipe for disaster.
