Both Lewiston and Auburn have publicized what will occur if the Palesky tax cap passes. Essential services such as fire, police, emergency response and snow removal will be adversely affected. Other sources of revenue will be sought. New taxes at the state level and user fees will be created. Local government will have less control over taxing and be more dependent on the state. Palesky’s promise is wrong. Mainers will end up paying the price in other ways. Vote no on Question 1.
