I read an article recently about how a person was calling people stupid if they vote for the tax cap. I must ask: is it stupid to want to prevent you being forced to sell your home because you cannot afford to pay the escalating taxes?
It is stupid that our generous legislators in Maine passed legislation that exceeded federal laws on welfare that stopped welfare at five years? Our generous legislators leave the welfare laws open ended and forever. They will pay Section 8 recipients over $800 a month to pay their rent plus heat and utilities. A working person who pays large taxes cannot afford that but they are forced to pay for others.
Yes, services will and should be cut and sacrifices have to be made by everyone.
The state has had 10 years to find solutions but will continue their scare tactics and intimidation instead of finding ways to cut sensibly.
Other states have a version of a tax cap that prevents older people from losing their homes. Not one has gone under.
The message that voters will give to our legislators if they do not pass the tax cap is, we can and will spend at will.
