I was saddened by the comment after the Many and One meeting that someone who spoke to Mr. Ahmed rudely and ruined the entire day and experience for him (Sun Journal, Jan. 20).
Please remember, the entire world is not fair or kind. We, too, have our share of rude, unfair, unkind and inappropriate people. Don’t give one person the power to ruin a beautiful day, filled with effort by the townspeople. The words of one person should not wipe out the work of many kind, caring people.
Please do not let one stupid person ruin a beautiful day and experience for you and everyone else in town. Don’t let one small experience take away from all the time and effort put out to make Somali families and people of color feel welcome.
We are like everyone else in the rest of the world. We are not all angels or saints or perfect. Please temper judgment and realize and appreciate the efforts that were made on your behalf. Don’t let a nasty person with a stupid mouth be exactly that – one person. He does not speak for the entire community. We, too, need tolerance and not to be judged by the action of one person.
Arlene and Frank Norman,
Lewiston
