Rep. Thomas F. Shields in a letter to the editor stated that Maine ranks 48th in being receptive to business (Dec. 3).

OK, lets remove Hawaii and Alaska (obvious reasons), Maine ranks 48 out of 50. In fact with the exception of being a safe place to live, Maine ranks at the bottom of the lists you would want to lead in and leads in the lists you want to be last in.

Rep. Shields fails to see that the reason that both our jobs and our young are leaving in droves is not because of the majority political party of the past 20 of 30 years, but the representatives who the people have elected time and time again.

It would be more helpful if Rep. Shields would stop pointing fingers at the other party and, instead, fix the problems. The parties must learn to work together or have one really large recall and start all over again and get it right before everyone leaves the state.

Maybe it’s just me, or is it the only time we hear from these elected officials is when they are raising taxes or losing millions of dollars or trying to get re-elected. We need to start seeing monthly district meetings with our representatives and tell them to fix our state or find another job, if there are any out there to find.
