Ron Lebel’s column Nov. 15 expresses the arrogant, elitist thinking that Chief Dana was talking about in his article.

The “Maine mystique” indeed.

He must be talking about the “Maine mystique” fishing villages with fisherman forced to sell their properties to folks from away because of the outrageous tax structure in the state.

Perhaps he was talking about the “Maine mystique” people who tend other people’s property on the cheap because the Legislature and governor do nothing but talk about jobs and their idea of a small business is a bottle redemption center.

Perhaps Mr. Lebel can answer a few questions?

Why did we vote for slot machines at racetracks owned by Las Vegas folks and not for a casino and hotel that would have provided many more jobs and income to the state?

Why did the governor and his cohorts spend millions to defeat the casino and next to nothing to defeat the racinos?

What does a casino do to the “Maine mystique” that multiple racinos won’t do?
