Police started on July 4 to give us a better quality of life – getting tough on loud motorcycles and motor vehicles’ “sound” systems. I call them thumpers – you can always feel them coming. Local sound system and motorcycle dealers don’t care. They’re happy just raking in the bucks at the expense of others.

Am I anti-biker? Heck no. I’ve been a biker, married a biker, but these insensitive “squids” give other bikers a bad name with their loud noise, speeding and recklessness on the road. Don’t I love a Harley or Gold Wing that hums – pure heaven. Their counterparts usually lay low when school’s in or the daycare kiddies are napping, but then it’s business as usual. This modus operandi needs to stop.

Thumpers and loud motorcycles herd their way up and down Sabattus Street between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. The last time I looked, hospitals contain sick people who can do without this loud noise.

Now, if people feel their peace of mind and quality of life are being violated by these noise mongers, they have options. Calling the local police usually takes a while to get a response. The police have their hands full and need some help. So, dust off your video cameras and jot down license plate numbers to make complaints. Contact your city councilors with your concerns or show up at their meetings.
