Auburn recently held a vote concerning a new school to be built with state funds and some city funds.

Actually, the funds come from the taxpayers. So, we are, in fact, paying the over $8 million in state available funds, additionally providing the extra cost for this school of over $1.5 million. The final direct cost to the taxpayers of Auburn will be over $2 million for this school, paid by our already high property taxes.

The second “intelligent” decision the handful of voters passed. They approved over $600,000 for air conditioning and gymnasium. The way the city of Auburn spends our hard-earned tax dollars, the final cost for the gym could be over $1 million. Does the possible two weeks of “warm” weather necessitate air conditioning? Do we want to add to the global warming problems we have already created?

What a shame the citizens of Auburn were not well-informed before this vote was taken. If people thought that this vote was not important enough to take the time to learn the issues and to vote and then complain about property taxes now, just wait! Those who didn’t vote or who voted for those two issues have added to the tax burden for all in Auburn.

How are Auburn taxpayers going to pay over $3 million to support these two issues? With taxes.
