Citizens of Durham need to know that Rep. Michael Vaughan has voted against reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Maine, protecting significant wildlife and waterfowl habitat, reducing children’s exposure to arsenic in treated wood, safely collecting household hazardous waste, safely collecting electronic waste, allowing towns to regulate personal watercraft, eliminating liquidation harvesting, and correcting an oversight that left some Down East waters without protection.
That is a long and revealing list of issues Michael Vaughan has voted against, but, perhaps worst of all for Durham, Mr. Vaughan also voted against upgrading Class C river standards. That means that one border of our town, the Androscoggin River, is one of only two rivers in Maine that does not have the higher standard of cleanliness and protection of all other rivers in Maine.
I don’t know about others, but Michael Vaughan most certainly does not “represent” this Durham citizen.
