In reference to Eileen M. Adams’ article, “Board recommends town accept shopping center” (Sept. 3), I believe that the Abbott Farm Plaza would make an excellent truck stop. Consider the volume of truck traffic on Route 2, and the fact that the closest truck stop I find listed in the phone book is in Farmington.

If the plaza is not used in its present form, this should be a good alternative and might actually increase business for some of the surrounding businesses such as the Linnell Motel or Teena’s.

Today’s truck stops are so much more than just a place to gas up and grab a burger, and a state-of-the-art truck stop could mean good profits, a number of jobs for local people and a strong contribution to Rumford’s tax base.
