I attended the first annual recital of the Edward Little music class April 9 at Olin Arts Center. In a word: spectacular.
The talent these young people have is amazing. They presented selections ranging from pop, classical, contemporary, choral, Broadway and orchestral music to original pieces.
Performers shared the spotlight in a style and manner that demonstrated the ease and camaraderie they had with each other. They did their own conducting, arranging, composing. The 2-hour recital was fast paced with a 15-minute intermission.
The participants were all seniors, save one, a junior. It was refreshing to look at these young faces, so clean cut, and performing with high caliber professionalism. Many have graced the CLT stage.
The professional looking program indicated the students have been active in the music program since freshman year. All are planning on future education in music, performing arts or graphic design.
The audience, composed mostly of parents, friends and students, was enthusiastic with rousing ovations. I wish more of the general public could have heard this outstanding recital.
There was no publicity beforehand so the L/A residents could see firsthand the excellent job the school system is doing by its young people. Publicity should come from the school, of course, as how else is the public to know of these events? Sometimes we have to toot our own horn.
There was no admission fee, by the way.
