It has been weeks days since Mr. Bush began his invasion of Iraq. It is public record that the United States made a unilateral decision to prosecute this war without significant international support, except for Great Britain.

Our president’s arrogance has been noted throughout the world by friends and foes.

I am not a pacifist. I have supported most of our country’s military conflicts in the past, with the exception of the Vietnam War. This war is different.

No one attacked us. No one threatened us. It has been reported that President Bush embarked on this military quest to end Saddam Hussein’s regime as a “divine mission.” It is difficult to imagine that God approves of any of mankind’s wars or any other violence or injustice toward one’s fellow man.

It is also a matter of record that the U.S. failed to secure the support and assistance of the United Nations, NATO, European Union, etc., which means we have the responsibility of absorbing the costs of the war and rebuilding Iraq.

It is important and necessary to say that we support and respect our military servicemen and women. We can support our military and urge our leaders to end this unjust war quickly so our troops can return home.

As every day goes by I become more convinced that this war is a tragic mistake.

Mr. Bush’s war has the potential for profoundly impacting the world in which our grandchildren will grow to adulthood.
