Having 30 years’ experience, state and national, as a service officer and advocate for veterans, I disagree with the Jan. 7 editorial that a claim for Veterans Administration benefits is the equal of registering an automobile at city hall.

From date of filing to adjudication of a claim can take up to a year. To start, the veteran’s military file has to be called in from St. Louis, Missouri.
