The cities of Lewiston and Auburn really need to get their traffic lights synchronized, which would ease the traffic snarls at major intersections.
In most cities, such as Augusta and Portland, there are nowhere near the traffic snarls that Lewiston-Auburn has, especially during rush hour. The reason there aren’t the traffic snarls is because the traffic lights are synchronized. Drivers should not have to get to a red light, the next one green, then the next one red. That is a totaly asinine traffic pattern, and a waste of money, with gas prices being so high.
Both cities need to get their acts together and synchronize the traffic lights. Traveling in Augusta, if you get one red light you get them all; however, when you get a green light, you get almost every green light in the direction you are going because they have their traffic lights synchronized.
Also, Lewiston needs to get rid of the granite stones that line both sides of Lisbon Street and turn that back into a two-lane street, as it was intended to be. That would cause a lot less traffic snarls in the downtown area. People won’t drive on those stones because of the rough ride, which can cause car owners to have alignments and tire balancing more often.
