Have you ever thought about building your own boat? This weekend at the Sportsmen’s and Outdoor Recreation Show you will have an opportunity to learn how to do just that from seasoned professional craftsmen who will be building a wooden kayak while you watch!

Representatives from the Newfound Woodworks will be constructing a “hybrid design” kayak which combines the beauty of a cedar strip deck with the utility of a stitch-n-glue mahogany plywood hull.

First-time boat builders will appreciate the ease and amount of time required to put the hull panels together yet still have the opportunity to create a beautiful and functional work of art as they edge the thin strips of wood together in various patterns on the deck. Time permitting, the kayak will then be sanded smooth and a protective covering applied to the work.

With the rising popularity of kayaking, canoeing and renewed interest in wooden boats in general, this will be a great opportunity to talk directly to the experts, ask questions and enjoy an interactive experience with one of the finest wooden boat builders in New England.
