AUBURN – The Red Eddie Basketball Camp is set to begin its fifth season Monday, June 22. The Red Eddie camp is a day camp open to boys and girls in grades 1 to 8. The camp teaches the fundamentals of the game of basketball and also features games against other towns. The camp is directed by EL coaches Mike Adams and Craig Jipson. Adams’ EL boys were KVAC and Eastern Maine Class A champions last season, while Jipson’s girls won their first KVAC championship. Jay/LF scholarship tourney at Maple Lane
LIVERMORE – The Jay/Livermore/Livermore Falls Chamber of Commerce is hosting its second-annual golf tournament to raise funds for scholarships to be awarded to Jay and Livermore Falls High School seniors, furthering their education in a Maine college in the fields of business or technical (trades) education. The tournament will be held Saturday, June 20 (rain date Sunday) at Maple Lane Golf Course.
Special events will include a helicopter ball drop 50/50 raffle. Prizes will be awarded for the first 3 balls in the cup. The drawing will be held post tournament at approximately 2 p.m.

CMMC Fall Classic date set at Martindale
AUBURN – Central Maine Medical Center’s 17th Annual Fall Golf Classic will be held at Martindale Country Club in Auburn on September 16. The fund-raising goal for this years event is $125,000. The funds will benefit CMMCs Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing.
Maine native Patrick Dempsey, star of the ABC hit series “Grey’s Anatomy,” has shared that his awakening to the realities of cancer began in 1997 when his mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Today she is living cancer free and enjoying an active, healthy life, but the experience led Dempsey to conclude that he wanted to make a difference by giving back to the community that helped his mother through her journey with cancer. With the actor’s financial support and personal commitment, CMMC created the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing, a program that has become an integral part of cancer care at the Central Maine Comprehensive Cancer Center and affiliated cancer clinics at Bridgton and Rumford hospitals. The Patrick Dempsey Center provides support, education, and health promotion for those touched by cancer.

USA Track & Field youth qualifier
SCARBOROUGH – The Maine Association of USA Track and Field will hold its Championship and Region 1 Qualifying meet for ages 10 & under, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, 17-18 on Saturday, June 20 at Scarborough High School.
Field events and running events will begin at 10 a.m. The triathlon, pentathlon, heptathlon and decathlon will be held on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.. On Sunday, the second day of the heptathlon and decathlon will begin at 9 a.m.
Athletes who are still 18 years of age through August 2, 2009 are still eligible to compete in the Junior Olympic Program. Age group is determined by subtracting birth year from 2009.
Individuals must be Maine USATF registered. You may register at the meet for $15. Entry fee is $5 for each event. Registration will begin one hour before the meet. You may download an entry form from the Maine USATF web site: www.meusatf.org . All entrants are to bring a copy of their birth certificate or other document showing proof of date of birth.
The top six individuals and relay clubs will qualify for the Region 1 meet to be held at Fitchburg (Mass.) State College from June 26-28. Registration for the Region 1 meet will be $7 per event.

Tennis Association holding U.S. Open raffle

STRONG – The 16th annual Lance Corporal Scott Paul men’s softball tournament will be held Saturday and Sunday at Strong Legion Field and Phillips Ball park. Athletes will compete in three age groups: 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14. The top three finishers in each event will progress to the state meet July 2 in Brewer. Dirigo basketball camp
DIXFIELD – Dirigo High School boys’ varsity basketball coach Gavin Kane announces that he and his coaching staff will conduct a summer hoop program for boys and girls entering grades 6-12 next fall.
The clinic will be set up differently than in the past. The schedule is as follows:
High school girls’ clinic – For students entering grades 9-12. Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 8:45 to 10 a.m., June 17 through July 24; High school boys’ clinic – Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 10:15 to 11:30 a.m., June 17 to July 24.
Boys’ middle school clinic – For students entering grades 6-8. Tuesday and Thursday, 8:45 to 10 a.m., June 18 to July 16; Girls’ middle school clinic – Tuesday and Thursday, 10 to 11:15 a.m., June 18 to July 16; Open gym – Tuesday and Thursday for individual offensive work, 11:15 a.m. to noon, open to all age groups, boys and girls.
Registration forms may be picked up in SAD 21 schools. High school age players may pick up forms in Coach Rebecca Fletcher’s science room at the school.
