RUMFORD/MEXICO – Mountain Valley Rec Basketball League will host its annual men’s basketball tournament this weekend, Friday, March 27 through Sunday, March 29.

This is the 10th year that the league has hosted the tournament.

It previously was played in Rangeley as the Mike’s or Sarge’s Sports Pub ‘N’ Grub Tournament, dating back to the 1980s.

Profits for the event will benefit Mountain Valley Athletic Boosters.

Games will be played in two divisions, A and B, with ”A’ division teams playing at Mountain Valley High School and ‘B’ teams playing at Mountain Valley Middle School.

‘A’ division is for the more competitive teams.

Players must be 18 or older and not on an active college roster.

Games will start at 5 p.m. Friday night and 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

All games on Sunday will be played at the high school.

There is a 16-team field with 15 teams currently entered. Tournament organizers are looking for one more ‘A’ level team.

The format will be a three-game round robin, with the top four teams in each division competing in a single elimination playoff Sunday.

Included in the tournament are a foul shooting contest, 3-point contest and slam dunk contest, with awards for all team and contest winners.

Referees, clock and scoring attendants are provided by the tournament and athletic boosters.

Teena’s Restaurant/Shelter Lounge will host the weekend’s evening events with food, drinks and a band on Saturday night. The public is welcome at all events.

Donations for the Athletic Boosters may be given at the door for all games.
