LEWISTON – The Senior Redskins and the Junior Giants earned playoff championships Saturday in the Lewiston Area Football League for Youth (FLY).

The Lisbon Street Getty Mart ‘Skins completed an unbeaten season with a convincing 41-0 win over the Senior Steelers. Leading the offensive charge was Letavian Sands, who scored from 42- and 33-yards out. Casey Thurlow tallied a 31-TD; Stephen Hinkley hit paydirt on a 53-yard scamper; and Erik Wilson ran 45-yards into the end zone. Shuaib Naji, Thurlow, Jeff Clark and Wilson all converted an extra point. The offensive line was powered by John Goulet, Nelson Goyette and Brent Freve. Having a fine defensive game were Kevin St. Pierre who stripped a Steeler running back and ran the ball back for the final TD; Thurlow who registered double digit tackles; and Goulet who recorded 2 quarterback sacks. Darrick Peters, Lily Fundis, Jason Goulet and Sands all contributed to the shutout. Having a fine game for the Steelers were Matt Wooten, Paul Fernald, Matt Roddy and Cody Landry.

The Grimmel’s Gas-Up Giants claimed the Junior Division title, knocking off defending champ Gilbert Electric Redskins 20-0. Ryan Bell scored on 2 long TD runs, and Quintarian Brown tallied the final TD. Offensive standouts were Alex Demers, Josh Knight and the entire offensive line. Defensively, the Giants were led by Eli Cody, Tanner Pitman, Mitchell Bourisk and Kody Voisine. Playing tough for the ‘Skins were Chase Tapley, Sean O’Donnell, Jr., Christian Fowler and Dante Brooks.

Consolation Games

In the Senior consolation contest, the Giants edged the Lions 8-6, and in the Junior Division, Don Morin’s Photo Lions nipped the Steelers 6-0.

All-Star Contests

The Senior Division All-Stars now prepare for the first annual FLY All-Star Challenge. The Redskins-Lions and Steelers-Giants will play the Rockland and Auburn Rec teams on Sunday, Oct. 28.
