AUBURN – The Lewiston/Auburn Senior Hockey League starts its 11th season this weekend at Ingersoll Arena. The recreational division begins Friday, with the competitive division hitting the ice Sunday. This week’s schedule:

Friday, Oct. 7

6:45 p.m. – L/A Stars vs. Radio City

8 p.m. – Custom Metal Fab vs. Play It Again Sports

9:15 p.m. – Lewiston Capitals vs. Budget Document Technology

Sunday, Oct. 9

6 p.m. – Team Bud Light vs. D.M.D. Barbarick

7:15 p.m. – River Rats vs. St. Laurent & Son

8:30 p.m. – Swamp Donkeys vs. B&B Catering

Ingersoll public skating, shinny hockey

AUBURN – Public skating begins for the season this weekend at Ingersoll Arena and continues Sundays and Wednesdays until mid-March. There are also expanded hours during school vacation weeks in December and February. Ice time is noon to 2 p.m., with admission $3 for adults, $2 for students and senior citizens, and free under age 5. Skate sharpening and limited skate rentals are available, and the concession stand is open Sundays.

In other Ingersoll activities, shinny hockey begins Monday, Oct. 10, and runs Monday through Thursday at 3 p.m. throughout October and November. Helmets and face masks are mandatory, and the cost is $5.

Ice time is available for rent at Ingersoll, with morning and evening hours available. Cost is $165 per hour, but only $75 per hour before noon during non-holiday or vacation periods. FMI, call Auburn Parks & Recreation at 784-0191.

Bethel Inn hosts Parrot Head weekend

BETHEL – A golf tournament and a variety of Jimmy Buffett tribute bands are part of a fun-filled weekend at The Bethel Inn Resort and Country Club to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association of Maine. The activities begin Friday, Oct. 21 and continue through Sunday, Oct. 23.

Fly fishing grants

PORTLAND – The web site Flyfishinginmaine.com is now accepting applications for 2006 project grants. Grants may vary in size up to a maximum of $5,000.

“We want to engage the Maine fly fishing community, and we think there are many organizations out there that we just don’t know about and could use our support,” said FFIM event director Ken Beaulieu.

Organizations submitting applications must be centered around fly fishing and have an impact on the statewide fly fishing community. Past grants have been issued to Save the Rapid Coalition, Casting for Recovery and Trout Unlimited’s trout camp. Full details can be found at the web site.
