Appalachia United 1, Augusta 1

AUGUSTA – Appalachia United and Augusta tied at one a piece. Both teams scored a goal in each half in a battle of the two top teams in the Southern Division of the CMSSL. For Appalachia United, Sam Witherspoon scored a shot that froze the Augusta keeper, on an assist from Jeff Beck midway through the first half. For Augusta, Ed Lewy scored late in the second half to secure the tie. Both team goalkeepers played exceptionally well. Appalachia United’s Andy Sperry made some solid saves, stopping 10 of 11 shots. Nate Benoit, for Augusta, was also strong in goal, making eight saves on nine shots. It was also the first time this season that both teams have allowed a goal. Both teams records stand at 2-0-1.
