George Ames recorded his ace at Springbrook Golf Club at Leeds, the #15 hole using an 8-iron.

Phil Stacy of Augusta shot his first hole-in-one July 27 at The Meadows Golf Club at Litchfield while competing in the D.O.T. Tournament. He used a 4-wood on the 161-yard #7 hole. Playing partners were Fred Paganucci, Rollie St. Pierre and Bob Sinclair.

Bernie White shot a hole-in-one on the #6 hole, 148-yards, at Bethel Inn on July 24 during the 4th annual New England Couples Championship.

Jones qualifies

FITCHBURG, Mass. – Ricky Jones of Thomaston has qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championships slated for August 16-22 at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y. Jones fired a 67-71-138 in local qualifying this week at Oak Hill Country Club in Fitchburg to finish in a tie for third and earn one of four qualifying positions for the U.S. Amateur. Shawn Warren of Windham is the fourth alternate, shooting 73-68-141.
