LEWISTON -A Lewiston Fall Men’s Slow Pitch Softball League is being planned. Doubleheaders will be played Sundays at the Randall Road complex starting Sept. 12 and ending October 31.
An organizational meeting is set for Tuesday, August 24 at 7:30 p.m. at the Lewiston Rec Department. A team deposit is due. Only the first 10 teams to register will be accepted. Lewiston teams have the first priority. More information can be obtained by calling Tony Gowell at 375-6540.
Lewiston Men’s League
LEWISTON – Brunswick Steele has advanced to the playoff finals in the American Division of the Lewiston Rec Men’s Softball League.
The Steelmen first eliminated Fast Breaks 15-8 Monday. Dave Sands went 4-4 with a triple and 2 RBI. Keith West added 3 hits, 1 a homer, and drove in 4 runs. Scott Strout also whacked 3 hits, 1 a triple, and knocked in a pair of runs. Winning pitcher Don Michaud aided his cause with 2 hits, including a 3-bagger.
In the first game of the best-of-3 semifinal series Tuesday, Brunswick Steel edged Roopers 6-5 in a total team effort. Joe Bailey was a defensive standout. Michaud gained the mound win.
Wednesday, the Steelmen vaulted into the finals with another 6-5 win over Roopers. West’s 3-run homer sealed the victory. Michaud was the winning flinger.
Brunswick Steel (4) now moves into the best-of-3 finals against Landry & Sons (3), starting Monday at Randall Road-1. Game 2 is set for Tuesday at R-1, with the “if” game slated for Thursday at R-2.
