AUBURN – A hunter safety course is being planned by the Auburn Recreation Department. This course is a requirement for those seeking a hunting license for the first time or who have not held a Maine license since 1976.

It’s a 5-day course at Hasty Community Center, as follows: Monday, Sept. 20 and Wednesday, Sept. 22, 6-9 p.m.; Sunday, Sept. 26, 1 p.m., (optional range seminar at Monmouth Fish & Game); Monday, Sept. 27, Wednesday, Sept. 29, 6-9 p.m.

Students will be introduced to the the following topics: rifles, shotguns, proper handling and safety, survival and first aid, hunter responsibility, landowner relations, map and compass, and game identification.

Those ages 10-12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Course fee is $5. Registration must be made in advance at the Auburn Recreation Department at Hasty CC.
