LEWISTON – Both the American and National League playoffs (best of 3) were slated to begin last night in the Lewiston Rec Men’s Softball league (weather permitting).
In the American League consolation tourney Saturday, Varsity Lettering prevailed to become the #4 seed for the regular playoffs. Varsity Lettering was set to meet Poland Spring (1) in Game 1 last night. Game 2 is scheduled tonight at 6:00 at Upper Franklin. The “if” game is penciled in for Wednesday at Randall-2. In the other series, Allaire Construction (2) and Ducharme Masonry (3) are set to meet tonight in Game 1 at Randall-1. Game 2 is scheduled for Wednesday at Upper Franklin, and the “if” game for Thursday.
In the National League, Health Club-Buddy T’s won the consolation tourney Saturday and is the #4 seed for the playoffs. Health-Club-Buddy T’s was set to meet Gipper’s-White Rock (1) in Game 1 last night. Game 2 is scheduled tonight at Randall-3, and the “if” game for Thursday. In the other series, Import Auto (3) and B&T Pallet (2) were slated to meet last night in Game 1. Game 2 is set for Wednesday at Randall-1, with the “if” game scheduled for Thursday.
Auburn Players’ League
AUBURN – There are only 4 unbeaten teams left in the playoffs and they are scheduled to be action tonight at Pettengill. E.S.M. will take on Major Automotive at 6:00. Hart Transportation will meet Meineke Car Care at 7:30. Four elimination games were set to be played Monday night (weather permitting).
Thursday, Fod Martin smashed a 3-run homer in the top of the 7th as Meineke Muffler outlasted Motor Home Center 11-9 in playoff action. Tom Smith and Skip Capone each collected 2 hits. Brad O’Connor was the winning pitcher. Rick Giguere and Shon Collins homered for Motor Home.
In other action, E.S.M. trimmed S&D Sheet Metal 15-3; Major Automotive edged Reggie’s Sales 10-8; and Hart Transportation upset Melanson-Webber 10-3.
