JAY – Emily Bovin launched a grand slam in an eight-run eruption in the fifth inning as Jay brought down Mt. Abram with a 13-2 victory in a softball game Wednesday.
Bovin also doubled and drove in five runs.
The teams were tied at 2-2 for four innings before the Tigers (4-0) exploded with eight runs in the fifth inning. Jay finished the day with 17 hits, and pitcher Alexii Smith got the win on the mound. She struck out seven batters.
The Tigers’ Alannah White and Beth Moore each had three hits and Daydra Loon had two. Brittany DiPompo doubled and drove in a run.
For the Roadrunners (1-2), Jillian Withee had two singles.
St. Dom’s 8, OOB 0
AUBURN – Kelsey Murphy smacked a two-run triple to help propel St. Dom’s to an 8-0 blanking of Old Orchard Beach Wednesday afternoon.
Mary Caron also hit a triple for the Saints (1-0). Pitcher Lindsay Nance collected the win, striking out six batters and giving up just one hit.
Fryeburg 12, Freeport 0
FRYEBURG – Hannah Hill tossed six innings of one-hit softball and smashed two home runs as Fryeburg rolled to a 12-0 romp over Freeport in WMC softball action Wednesday.
Hill’s home runs came in the fourth and fifth innings, when the Raiders (3-0) scored five and four runs respectively. Hill finished with three hits on the day, while Ariel McConkey and Brylie Walker each belted two. Anna Cupaj also contributed with a three-run triple in the fourth inning.
Mt. Ararat 14, Lewiston 6
TOPSHAM – Miranda Reindeau had three base hits, while Lisa Rodgers had two doubles as Mt. Ararat posted a 14-6 win over Lewiston Wednesday afternoon.
Meghan Carr earned the win for the Eagles (2-2) , fanning 10 batters.
Lewiston’s (0-4) Carley Denis hit a two-run triple and a double, while Lyndsay Smith smacked a two-run double.
Georges Valley 2, Monmouth 1
THOMASTON – Liz Hall smacked an RBI double in the fourth inning to lift Georges Valley to a 2-1 victory over Monmouth in a MVC softball matchup Wednesday.
Katlyn Rich also contributed for the Buccaneers (2-0) with a two-run double.
Danielle Frye struck out 16 batters and walked three while earning her second win of the season.
Reen Kahl handled pitching duties for the Mustangs (1-1) and was tagged with the loss.
Cape Elizabeth 4, G-New Gloucester 0
CAPE ELIZABETH – Colleen Martin’s triple in the fourth inning brought in three runs, leading the Cape Elizathe to a 4-0 shutout over Gray-New Gloucester in a softball game Wednesday. The fourth run was an RBI credited to Emily Richardson.
The Patriots were paced by Alicia Valente with a double and a single.
Tricia Thibodeau earned the win for the Capers (3-0), while Laura Getchell took the loss. Both pitchers recorded eight strikeouts.
Oxford Hills 5, Leavitt 1
SOUTH PARIS – Brooke Ladd belted a two-run single in the third inning to propel Oxford Hills to a 5-1 victory over Leavitt in a KVAC softball tilt Wednesday.
Mindy Rugg led the undefeated Vikings (4-0) with two hits and two RBIs, while Mariah Martin also belted a pair of hits. Megan Gauger earned the mound win after four innings of work.
Adrie Newton handled pitching duties for the Hornets (3-1) and was saddled with the loss.
Dirigo 7, Lisbon 4
DIXFIELD – Nikki Berry smacked two doubles and Katrina Pulk had one to help lead Dirigo to a 7-4 win over Lisbon Wednesday afternoon.
Dirigo took the lead in the fifth inning starting off with Alyssa Wade who drew a walk. Pulk, Angela Knox, and Morgan Hutchins each delivered a single to load the bases, before Alyssa Charity brought Pulk and Knox home on a single.
Kayla Chiasson pitched a complete game, striking out five, walking none, and scattering five hits.
Medomak Valley 5, Oak Hill 4
WALDOBORO – Danica Simmons hit a well-placed pop-up to left center field that allowed Kasey Benner to score and give Medomak Valley a 5-4 win over Oak Hill.
The Raiders (2-1) stepped out to a 2-0 advantage in the third inning before Medomak got its offense revved up. Benner finished with three hits and one RBI, while Kayla Vannah belted a double in the third. Kayla Santheson struck out 14 and walked two while earning the win.
Lauren Hall fanned nine batters for Oak Hill in a complete-game effort.
Lacrosse
Hebron 7, Tilton 6
HEBRON – Emma Valli netted the game-winning goal with less than a minute on the clock to give Hebron the 7-6 win over Tilton in a lacrosse matchup Wednesday.
Hebron opened the scoring within the first 30 seconds of the contest, but Tilton answered with several goals. Tied at three a piece at the half, the two teams continued to exchange goals until Valli’s game-winner.
She and Sarah Market each had two goals, while Catherine Byrne, Lisa Terkelsen and Masie Metcalfe rounded out the offensive attack.
