PORTLAND – Alex Smith spun a complete-game two-hitter in the second game of a doubleheader Sunday to lift Central Maine Community College to a sweep over Southern Maine Community College in local baseball action.

CMCC took Game 1 11-5, and used Smith’s gem in Game 2 to carve out a 3-1 victory. Smith finished with 11 strikeouts, and also hit a home run for the Mustangs. Ben French chipped in with a double.

In the opener, Jake Pelletier struck out 11 in five innings and the Mustangs bats were lively. Smith had another home run in that contest, Luis Mena had a triple and Eric Picard had a double to lead the offense, which plated five runs in the top of the seventh to take command.

Dan Walker belted a home run for SMCC in Game 1.
