McKEESPORT, Penn. – Sean Thorne scored 14 of his game-high 22 points in the second half to lead No. 3 Andrew College of Michigan in a 67-57 victory over No. 7 Central Maine Community College in a United States Collegiate Athletic Association playoff on Friday.
The Mustangs built a 10-point advantage in the first half and led by one at the break, but couldn’t stop the Cardinals inside penetration and were outscored 40-29 in the final frame. Ryan Little ignited Andrews with three 3-pointers midway through the second half that gave the Cardinals the lead for the balance of the game. Farrell Jean-Gilles led the Mustang attack with 20 points, including two treys. Cam Angell buried four from behind the arc for 12. Tyler Smithgall and Matt Sceviour added 10 points apiece.
Little and Stephon Blackwood netted 15 points for the Cardinals and Markell Dorsainvil added 11. The Mustangs play for seventh place overall Saturday at 11 a.m. Their opponent is yet to be determined.
