SALEM – Kenni Norton scored 19 of her team’s 25 second-half points to prevent Dirigo from staging a comeback in Mt. Abram’s 54-35 victory in an MVC girls’ basketball game Tuesday.
The Roadrunners’ pressure defense created several easy baskets in transition in the first half, which ended with a 29-12 Mt. Abram lead.
Norton finished with 28 points for the Roadrunners (4-1), and Mikayla Burbank chipped in with 10 points. Teresa Turner led Dirigo (5-2) with 10 points.
Oxford Hills 44, Skowhegan 37
SOUTH PARIS – Caitlin Hanley netted 12 points Tuesday to lead Oxford Hills to a 44-37 victory over Skowhegan in MVC girls’ basketball action Tuesday.
Megan Joyce chipped in for the Vikings with 11 points, while Lindsay Fox added nine. Oxford Hills held a five-point advantage at halftime.
Skowhegan was paced by Adrienne Davis with a game-high 13 points, while Morgan Lambert and Whitney Jones chipped in with six each.
Cape Elizabeth 62, Poland 20
POLAND – Gabrielle Donahue snagged 18 points as Cape Elizabeth sailed past Poland 62-20 in WMC girls’ basketball action Tuesday.
The Capers (3-3) executed a pressure defense in the first half, forcing many turnovers and catapulted to a 36-13 halftime lead.
Senior guard Alexa Doyer provided seventy-five percent of the Knights’ scoring on five field goals and five free throws for 15 points.
St. Dom’s 51, NYA 31
YARMOUTH – Sophomore center Allaina Murphy fueled St. Dom’s with 21 points as the Saints cruised to a 51-31 victory over North Yarmouth Academy in WMC girls’ basketball action Tuesday.
Murphy recorded 10 of her 21 points in a 19-7 first quarter run for the Saints (2-3). Senior guard Mary Lewis pitched in with 10 points, while Sarah Gosselin hauled down 10 rebounds for St. Dom’s.
Senior guard Blair Haggett led the Panthers’ (2-3) offense with 11 points.
Leavitt 71, Mt. Blue 38
TURNER – Freshman forward Adrianna Newton poured in a game-high 20 points and grabbed 14 rebounds and Courtney Anderson tallied 18 points, eight assists and seven steals to lead Leavitt to a 71-38 victory over Mt. Blue in a Tuesday KVAC matchup.
The Hornets (3-3) jumped out to a 23-14 advantage in the first quarter and allowed just three fourth-quarter points.
Sabrina Keach led the Cougars (0-6) with nine points, while Marjorie Hardy added seven.
Madison 55, Telstar 31
MADISON – Junior forward Ali Russell compiled 18 points to lead Madison to a 55-31 victory over Telstar.
The Bulldogs (4-2) utilized a full-court press in the first half as Russell scored eight of her 18 points, and junior forward Andrea Smith scored nine of her 11 points in the stanza.
Kayla Merrill tossed in 10 points for the Rebels (0-5).
Lawrence 44, Lewiston 35
LEWISTON – Forward Kelli Murray drained 19 points to lead Lawrence to a 44-35 victory over Lewiston in KVAC girls’ basketball action Tuesday.
Following a prolific first quarter where the Bulldogs (4-2) took a 22-15 lead, both defenses clamped down over the next three frames. The Blue Devils (0-6) shortened their deficit to two on two separate ocassions until things slipped away in the waning minutes of the fourth quarter.
Junior forward Jaime Swart led the Blue Devils with eight points. Kim Archibald scored six points and hauled down a respectable 13 boards, while Kailey Martin came off the bench for seven points and six boards.
Oak Hill 50, Gardiner 38
WALES – Maggie Sabrine scored 20 points and Oak Hill exploded with 23 points in the first quarter as the Raiders (3-3) marched off with a 50-38 victory in a girls’ basketball game Tuesday night.
The Raiders built a 37-17 lead by the half and despite a 12-point second half, still knocked off the Tigers (2-3)
For Gardiner, Laren Gorham scored 14 points, Chelsea Striker had 10, and Emily Kozna pulled down 10 rebounds.
