LEWISTON – Senior forward Stacey Kent scored a game-high 17 points to lead the University of Southern Maine to a 67-57 victory over Bates in a women’s college basketball matchup Tuesday.

Kent led four players in double figures for the Huskies (4-0) while handing the Bobcats (3-1) their first loss of the season. Haley Johnson chipped in with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Nicole Paradis tallied 12.

Bates was paced by Val Beckwith with 14 points. Christine McCall tossed in 10 and Kellie Goodridge added nine.

Ahead by one point with 7:29 left in the game, the Huskies outscored Bates 13-4 down the stretch to secure the win.

Rivier 74, UMF 65

FARMINGTON – The University of Maine at Farmington rolled to an early lead, but Rivier College staged a second-half rally to pull off a 74-65 victory Tuesday night at Dearborn Gymnasium.

Rivier featured five players in double figures, led by Blair Carpenter with 17 points. Ashley Busque and Erin Porter paced the Beavers (2-2) with 15 points each.

Men’s basketball

Colby 65, Endicott 56

BEVERLY, Mass. – Colby used a 10-0 run late in the fourth quarter to pull out a 65-56 victory over Endicott in a men’s college basketball tilt Tuesday.

Artie Cutrone led the White Mules (3-2) with 18 points.

Thomas 84, Wentworth 81

WATERVILLE – Mike Burchill drilled a 24-footer with just three seconds left in regulation to lift Thomas to a 84-81 victory over Wentworth in more college men’s basketball action Tuesday.

Andrew Duncanson led the Terriers with 23 points, while Isaiah Brathwaite chipped in with 17

UMF 69, St. Joseph’s 56

STANDISH – Four players reached double digits Tuesday as the University of Farmington rolled to a 69-56 win over St. Joseph’s in men’s basketball . Eric Taylor led the Beavers (2-1) with 14 points. Josh Tanguay added 10 and pulled down 12 rebounds.

Bates 66, USM 45

LEWISTON – The Bates College men’s basketball squad battled back from a 30-24 halftime deficit to defeat Southern Maine, 66-45. The Bobcats (2-1) held the Huskies (1-3) to 4-of-30 shooting from the from the field while enjoying a 42-15 scoring advantage in the second half.

Chris Wilson led Bates with 15 points, while Brian Ellis chipped in with 14 and 10 rebounds. Greg Whitaker led the Huskies with 15, while Kione Morgan added 11.
