Gayton sweeps Brunswick

LEWISTON — After a wild first game, Jeff Keene quieted Brunswick with a four-hit shutout to lead Gayton Post to 5-0 victory and a doubleheader sweep of Brunswick in the American Legion baseball regular-season finale.

The victories ensured that Gayton (17-1) will enter this week’s Zone 3 tournament.

Keene struck out seven, walked one and was aided by his team’s ability to manufactor runs. In the second inning, Alex Hall singled home one run, but the other twoscored on an infield out and a passed ball. Gayton added two insurance runs in the fifth on a pair of bases-loaded walks.

The opener saw Gayton score six times in the first inning en route to a 16-9 triumph. Gayton got out quickly when the first two batters reached on a hit-by-pitch and a walk, and they scored on Alex Wong’s triple. An error on the play nallowed Wong to circle the bases.

Ben Wigant had a double and triple for Gayton, while Hall, Corbin Hyde, Chris Whitney and David Ouellette all had two hits. Matt Liscovitz had three hits for Brunswick (11-7).

Joe Sullivan pitched the first four innings to earn the victory.

Bessey Motors sweeps Mechanic Falls

MECHANIC FALLS — Bessey
Motors used an eight-hit attack and pitcher Dan Millett punched out a
pair of hits and drove in a run to steer Bessey past Mechanic Falls to
a 10-2 victory in Game 1 of an American Legion baseball doubleheader on
Saturday.

Bessey built 6-1 lead by the sixth inning and never
looked back. Nate Dubois got the win on the mound, Matt Verrier, Justin
Frechette and Millett each contributed with a double.

For Mechanic Falls, Trey Ouellette, Casey Ray, and Nick Douglas each had two hits apiece.

In
Game 2, Bessey Motors (12-6) continued to dominate on the diamond,
staying just ahead of Mechanic Falls (3-15) with a 12-9 victory.

Bessey
quickly opened a 5-3 lead in the second inning when Brandon Chase
launched a grand slam to earn himself four RBIs. D.J. Croy got the win
on the mound for Bessey.

For Mechanic Falls, Connor King slapped a two-run homer in the third inning to help his team close in on Bessey.

Mechanic Falls had 12 hits and Bessey Motors punched out 11 hits. Repeat hitters for Bessey included Keniston and Chase with two hits a piece. For Mechanic Falls, Trey Ouellette had two hits and Ray had 3.\

Swasey-Torre, Andy Valley split

TURNER — Swasey-Torre had only two hits but capitalized on Andy Valley’s five errors to slip away with a 4-3 victory in Game 1 of an American Legion baseball doubleheader Saturday.

Aaron Fenstermacher went the distance on the mound and got the win. Danny Buzzel and Willy Brown each doubled for Andy Valley.

In Game 2, Andy Valley turned things around and marched off with a 10-7 victory. Both teams each had nine hits, but Swasey-Torre erupted with eight runs in sixth inning to comeback from a 7-2 deficit.

For Swasey-Torre (4-14), Ryan Lafleur and Aaron Fenstermacher each had two hits. For Andy Valley (6-12), Zach Keene and Lucas Chandelimer each had two hits.
